Momenvo is an Android app by Vanguard Edge Intelligence for checking the weather and planning journeys in the Netherlands. For privacy enquiries, contact vanguard3dge@gmail.com.
We do not sell your data or use advertising or advertising tracking. The app does not record a continuous history of your position and does not request background location permission.
What data we use and why
-
Location. With your permission, Android provides your approximate or precise position to show the weather, centre the map, sort places by proximity or use it as your starting point. The app sends the necessary coordinates to our server. You can deny or withdraw permission and enter addresses manually.
-
Searches and journeys. We process your search text, starting point, destination, transport mode and chosen time to calculate the route and its weather forecast. A one-off calculation does not automatically create a saved route. Searches may be held temporarily in a server cache configured for ten minutes.
-
Saved routes. We retain the name, place labels, coordinates, route geometry, schedule, recurrence and monitoring status to display your routes again and check the weather before departure, even when the app is closed. This uses the route you saved, not a new reading of your location in the background.
-
Technical identifiers. Firebase Authentication creates an anonymous identity without asking for your name, email address or password. Firebase Installations and Cloud Messaging use installation identifiers to deliver notifications to your phone. Our server associates your routes with that identity and stores the notification identifier in encrypted form.
-
Operation and security. Network services receive technical information, such as your IP address, requests and device or SDK data needed to respond, prevent abuse and troubleshoot faults. We record execution statuses and notification delivery acknowledgements. The app does not integrate an advertising, Analytics or Crashlytics SDK.
-
Support. If you contact us, we process your email address and the information you provide to respond or handle your request. Avoid sending private routes unless necessary.
Permissions and data stored on your phone
Notifications require Android permission. Visual preferences, a local copy of routes and solar alert settings are stored on the device. Sunrise and sunset times and their reminders are calculated and scheduled locally. You can change permissions in Android Settings. Uninstalling the app does not constitute a request to delete data from the server.
Services involved
-
OVHcloud: hosts the server that calculates weather along your routes and stores the routes you save. Valhalla calculates journeys on this server using OpenStreetMap data.
-
Google Firebase: provides anonymous authentication, installation identification and notification delivery. Notification messages do not contain addresses or route geometry; they do include a route reference, the recommendation and its timing. Firebase privacy information.
-
Photon by komoot: an external search service to which our server sends your search text and, when used, the reference position for nearby searches. If unavailable, the app may use the device's geocoding service, whose provider depends on the Android device.
-
OpenFreeMap: serves map resources directly to your device and may receive connection information and information about the area being viewed. MapLibre is the library that displays these resources. OpenFreeMap privacy information.
-
KNMI and ECMWF: supply weather data downloaded by our server. We do not send them your identity or routes to obtain this data.
-
Hostinger: manages DNS for this legal website. If you contact us by email, Google is involved as the email provider.
These providers may process information in various countries, including countries outside the European Economic Area, under their terms and data protection safeguards. We do not claim that all processing is limited to our VPS or the Netherlands.
Why we process this information
We use the data needed to provide the functions you request, your authorisation for optional permissions, and our legitimate interest in maintaining security and responding to enquiries. Where the law requires consent, you can withdraw it. We do not use your routes for advertising, selling profiles or decisions with legal effects.
Retention
Routes remain while in use, until deleted or until their monitoring expires. The current version limits monitoring to seven days for a one-off route and 366 days for a recurring route. Pausing a route does not delete it.
Deleting a route stops its monitoring and removes it from the list. After 24 hours, its data becomes eligible for periodic batch cleanup. Inactive identifiers are pruned when no longer linked to journeys. The Firebase identity may remain until its deletion is processed.
Database backups rotate daily, with a maximum of three copies and a size limit. Technical logs also rotate with size limits. Data may be retained temporarily in backups and providers' systems. When handling a request, we will explain any applicable limitations or retention. We do not keep backups to intentionally reactivate deleted data.
Your rights and data deletion
You can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability, where applicable, by emailing our privacy contact. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live. We will take proportionate steps to verify that the data belongs to you.
Security and changes
The app's connections use HTTPS, and route operations verify identity and ownership. No system can guarantee zero risk. These pages are hosted on the VEI website. Optional website analytics only load after you accept analytics cookies. See the VEI privacy policy and cookie policy for website processing and consent controls. This does not add analytics or advertising to the Android app. We will publish changes to this policy here and update its date.
